We took Angel to the Vet for her babies first photos. Our vet was not working that day. So we had to see another vet which was unfortunate as she was having a difficult time reading the ultrasound. She could however defiantly see one puppy. :) So we know she is expecting and has one puppy, and we will plan on the one puppy until we can get an x-ray done closer to Angels whelp date. I have my doubts about expecting just one puppy. I think there is more hiding in that belly of hers.
Here is the photo of the one puppy we caught on film :) Sorry the picture is so small but if you look at the top of the scan you can see a small jellybean shape that is the puppy! :)
Lhasa Regards,
Goldy Marie

Gloria Fowler of Everglo

from Betty L. Ingram included below]

Gloria Fowler of Everglo Kennels crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on May 30th at 5 pm PST to join her closest family, friends and her beloved Lhasas.

She will be missed by all who really knew her. Her legend will carry on.

Please allow the family time to grieve privately. There will be a funeral service for Gloria on Wednesday in Bakersfield, CA. The final arrangements are not quite complete, but I will post them as soon as they are confirmed.

There will be a memorial ad prepared and hopefully it will be published in the Lhasa magazine and also plans are underway for it to be published in the AKC Gazette.

The greatest tribute anyone can do for Gloria is to share any old pics of Everglo dogs that anyone has so new breeders can recognize what Gloria contributed to the breed. Share your memories.

Gloria was a loving person and gave freely. She always had a kind word for everyone. She would lend support when needed. She will always be a guiding light for those who sought her out.

She will be missed, but will always be greatly appreciated for what she has contributed to the breed. Unless I am mistaken, except for the new imports in recent years, there is not a pedigree that does not have Everglo dog behind it.

A litter was whelped on Memorial Day that will be known as the OLD GLORY GIRLS. All will carry the name Gloria of Everglo as a tribute. Their call names will be Gloria, Belle & Angel.

Namaste,
Betty
*************************************************************************************
It is so sad to hear about Gloria's passing I would have loved to meet such a generally nice and interesting lady. Thank you Gloria for your love and dedication to our beloved Apsos. Andy sure looks like his dad Rider :) Thanks so much for the photos JoAnn.

All is well. I thought I would send you several cute pics that I took recently. Andy is such a dream! My, does he love to give kisses and snuggles too. He likes to spoon...when I go to bed he's right there and flops down with his head on my pillow--he then curls up next to me. He is everything and more than we dreamed of. Such a curious little thing--he loves going down the hill to drink from the narrow creek that we have and certainly loves being outside. He's become the gardening expert. Whenever we're out planting something or watering, he's right there helping!!! He loves to chase water as it comes out of the hose too.

I just wanted to let you know that all is fine. He's as happy as can be!! So are we! Not to mention all of the yard work that needed to be done. I took some pictures of the planters as by the end of the summer they have gotten so large I wish I would have had pictures of them when they where first planted. They may not look like much now but by mid July they are so pretty. We usually try not to plant flowers in the ground as that causes a lot more maintenance :) which no one likes! If I don't want a lot of the annuals dug up or tinkled on by the dogs the pots are great. They can pee to there hearts content and a water hose is a quick cleanup at the end of the day, and the flowers are still alive and kicking! I have found a lot of these pots here locally at imported decor goods stores over the last 8 years. I have accidentally broken quite a few as well :( One always seems to bite the dust by the end of the year. Here are some of the photos I took of the hanging baskets and my favorite 2. The 2 large pots we put on the wall. My dad built that sandstone wall himself 20 years ago. I have a feeling that wall will be here long after I am gone.
Lhasa Regards,
Goldy Marie
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j08J4RpXhUU/ShwHlK3DH6I/AAAAAAAAAG0/-oofdgDb-6E/s320/Windowbox.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340151593306365858" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 199px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j08J4RpXhUU/ShwHk_j2ZCI/AAAAAAAAAGs/FAKn1_56FRM/s320/Wall+pots.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340151590273049634" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 241px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_j08J4RpXhUU/ShwHkm4O1RI/AAAAAAAAAGk/sjPIn7KQS_o/s320/hanging+Basket.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340151583647651090" />

Rider's Photo has arrived!

Without further redue here is our Rider's New AKC Champion photo.
I was watering the flower pot on top of the mailbox and something did not sound right and I could tell the water was splashing against something. Orlane's Easy Rider At Carrington**** NEW Champion

I have been not the greatest at keeping up this blog but things have been so crazy around here since spring is when we really get out to the shows. I know there are some of you who have asked why I am not keeping up with the blog. So I have to catch up and update what has been going on with the kids :)
We made it out the the Las Vegas shows this year which was nice as they had a great new venue for the dog show. The show grounds where gorgeous and so was the weather. The trip was great other then the troubled tire we had to stop and replace on the way home :)
Now to the important part! The first day Rider picked up his first major with BOW. It was a 4 point major as there was 7 males entered in the show the fist day. I was so proud of Rider as he has really come into his own, and we where really working as a team in the ring. I could not asked for anything more from him as he was so perfect for me in the ring :) He always looks up at me out of the corner of his eye just making sure he is doing what he is supposed to. He has to be of course all proper in the ring which he always does for me. As soon as he is out of the ring though he goes back to his wild self ! The second day in Vegas he also took (BOW- best of winners) to pick up 2 points as the second day there were only 5 males entered, just one male short of the second major he would have needed to finish. So that let us to the Riverton Utah shows here locally just short of a month later where Rider picked up his second major to finish his AKC Championship all from the Bred by Exhibitor classes. This was very exciting for Dea and I since this is our first bred by Champion. Of course our Rider was co-bred by Linda K. Smith of Orlane Lhasas, as always without her help would have never been possible.
I do have a few pictures from the show that where shot ring side of Rider I thought I would share, I have not gotten his show photo with the judge yet, but will post it as soon as I get it:)
Lhasa Regards,
Goldy Marie

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://carringtonlhasaspot.blogspot.com/2009/05/ch-orlanes-easy-rider-at-carrington.html' title='***Ch. It is Copyright 2005 Randy Cassingham, all rights reserved, and reprinted here with permission:

"Ethical" Defined

After more than 100 dead dogs were dumped in a trash dumpster over four weeks, police in Ahoskie, N.C., kept an eye on the trash receptacle behind a supermarket. Sure enough, a van drove up and officers watched the occupants throw in heavy plastic bags. They detained the two people in the van and found 18 dead dogs in plastic bags in the dumpster, including puppies; 13 more dead dogs were still in the van. Police say the van is registered to the headquarters of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and the two occupants, Andrew B. Cook, 24, and Adria Joy Hinkle, 27, identified themselves as PETA employees. An autopsy performed on one of the dogs found it was healthy before it was killed. Police say PETA has been picking up the animals -- alive -- from North Carolina animal shelters, promising to find them good homes. Cook and Hinkle have been charged with 62 felony counts of animal cruelty. In response to the arrests PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said it's against the group's policy for employees to dump animals in the trash, but "that for some animals in North Carolina, there is no kinder option than euthanasia." (Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald) ...Oops, my mistake: that's "Playing God" Defined.

In his author's notes section, Cassingham had more to say about this story:

The more I learn about PETA, the less I think of them. The story of them killing animals isn't even unusual. According to PETA's own filings, in 2004 PETA killed 86.3 percent of the animals entrusted to its care -- a number that's rising, not falling. Meanwhile, the SPCA in PETA's home town (Norfolk, Va.) was able to find loving homes for 73 percent of the animals put in its care. A shortage of funds? Nope: last year PETA took in $29 million in tax-exempt donations. It simply has other priorities for the funds, like funding terrorism (yes, really). But don't take my word for it: I got my figures from http://www.PETAkillsAnimals.com -- and they have copies of PETA's state and federal filings to back it up. The bottom line: if you donate money to PETA because you think they care for and about animals, you need to think some more. PETA literally yells and screams about how others "kill animals" but this is how they operate? Pathetic.

And you know what I wonder? PETA's official count of animals they kill is 86.3 percent. But if they're going around picking up animals, killing them while they drive around and not even giving them a chance to be adopted, and then destroying the evidence by dumping the bodies in the trash, are those deaths being reported? My guess: no. While 86.3 percent is awful, the actual number is probably much, much higher. How dare they lecture anyone about the "ethical" treatment of animals!

(This is True is a weekly column featuring weird-but-true news stories from around the world, and has been published since 1994. She called I think so I could help her stay awake. We were all out in the garage here cleaning and getting everything ready for the sale the next morning. I was telling her all about the AKC and hearing about the new planned Annual event fee.
I can’t understand why they want to charge us $25 per dog, per year to show our dogs . We are the reputable breeders that go to great lengths and expense to breed ethically. Then when I started thinking about it, I thought well this is because our clubs are sanctioned with them and our shows are linked to them and their is less of a chance we can just run somewhere else to register our dogs. If they were to impose fee increases on all “breeders” they would lose more of the “puppymill” breeders who may intern run to another registry, which would cause the AKC to lose more money. I just will never understand such a thought as justification for such unjust actions.
Dea Andrews

On the road again..... :o)

Well I thought I might be a little more pro-active and write in the blog again. Since I have been a little lazy about keeping this up :) Well hey now I have been a busy girl.
I have been itching to go to a dog show. I have been getting a bit of cabin fever for the last 2 months now. Although once I do get out to a show. I always want to get right back on the road and go to another. I enjoy showing dogs so much, especially watching a Lhasa starting to mature into the beautiful dogs mentally and physically they become. I had a wonderful time showing the kids in Phoenix this past weekend. The dogs love to go and we have a great time, of course the shows are all about them ( lol ) and they sure know it !
It is hard to find time to get out to show as we have a lot going on right now. This is the only time I wish that I lived somewhere on the east coast so that I could jump in my car and be at a show in an hour or 2..... it sure would be nice to not have to drive the longer distances that we have to drive here. Don't even get me started on the costs involved. Sometimes I wonder if I am crazy for the money it takes to show the dogs... but there is no other way to breed these dogs responsibly. Most breeders who show say they are hobby breeders.... but it is much more than that. It is a lifestyle that takes complete dedication, and I true love and thirst for knowledge that takes a lifetime to learn about this breed.
Here is a picture of *Kiddo* waiting to go into the group ring. He sure enjoyed the nice breeze blowing his hair back, and I snapped this shot of him with the camera.... Some people say that dogs don't smile but he sure has me fooled!
Lhasa Regards,
Goldy Marie

Kiddo enjoying the greatest snow on earth

The snow has arrived in Utah ! Looks like we are going to get several storms over the next few days which will be a lot of shoveling and wet dogs running around the house. Of course the dogs never mind the snow and love to play for as long as they can in it before they get to cold.

I took some photos of Kiddo as this is the first time our little English clown has seen the snow. If there was not any doubt a Apso loved the snow he is it. He was running, leaping and diving in and out of the snow almost as if he had been doing it his whole life. :o) Here are some pictures I took. The one where he is laying in the snow takes my breath away. What a true to breed type Lhasa Apso he is. I am so thankful to have him here with us in Utah.

Lhasa Regards,

GoldyMarie

Going through photos

I was going through photos from Christmas last year and I found a lot of our niece Grace, and even better I found a video I took of her .... that I forgot about. We were very excited to get the chance to share a room with one of our mentors Linda K. Smith of Orlane Lhasa Apsos. We very much enjoyed sharing the “National” experience with her. We also had the privlege of visiting her hom in Delaware even more. We got to see all the Orlane Lhasas and her family was very welcoming.

We had a nice time at dinner the last night before our flight, and we were delighted to meet Joan and Ann. Every moment with Linda was far from dull…lol We had a lot of fun and got to meet a lot of very nice people.
Janet and Betty you are the best for taking the time at midnight to share your knowledge and experience with us. We are very grateful to both of you for making it all that much easier on us in the grooming department.

The Gallo's met us at the baggage claim to meet us and take their new puppy Cody home. We found them to be so genuinly nice. They were so helpful getting us out to Linda's car, loaded up, and on our way. We know that Cody has found a wonderful family with the two of them and thier other Apso Maggie from Linda. They have been sending us wonderful photos of all of them enjoying their winter home in sunny Florida.
We were very impressed to see how the basket contest came together, and we were glad that our donation could add something different to the bunch. All the baskets on the tables added to the beauty of the ballroom which looked fantastic.
Bingo was a blast with Linda and Marsha and their antics, though Marsha would make a better auctioneer then bingo number caller at hyper speed…lol… I am happy that what we did helped to bring the rescue total up. When out to Dinner with Helen and Linda Goldy and I decided to go ahead and collect items for ALAC Rescue Bingo again this coming year.
Rider sure took to all the ladies at the National dog or human, and was licking Linda’s toes in the chair to butter her up after being turned away with his advances …lol

Dea Andrews

Angel shows in Group

Over the weekend we groomed out the crew and headed down to the Bonneville Basin Kennel Association dog show held every year in Farmington Utah. It was only a two day show. Usually when we travel this long of a distance we try for a 4 day show. Dea and I were very anxious to show Kiddo to Edd Biven who was the scheduled judge the first day. He always loved Oreo and since Kiddo has such wonderful "TYPE" we wanted to show him to Edd who we thought would just love this English Clown :) Unfortunately when we arrived ringside about 30 minutes before we were scheduled to be judged. I noticed several breeds around me that I knew should have already been judged in the ring. I then looked up and Edd was missing. The ring stewed informed me that Edd had flown into California but never made it out of the airport. His wife is struggling with Cancer and he received a urgent call to return home. I do hope his wife is not in to much pain and I hope that she comes through alright. There will be another time and another place for us to enter under Edd again.
Edd Biven in a way is a misunderstood man. Some call him mean or downright nasty. When nothing could be further from the truth. He was one of the first judges we ever had an entry under and I will never forget that day. He must have made me do a down and back 15 times. He has made an effort to speak with us about his thoughts on the Apso and how he feels about what we have in the ring. I respect him immensely, because he looks for type in our breed. It is the most important factor in judging Apsos. Now I did not say it was the only thing... but to me, the most important.
To make a long story... lol a little shorter ( is that possible )... we did not win that weekend as far as points go, but I did speak with 2 ladies who have been in the breed for quite some time and some new people who had just got their first Apso and are heading for the show ring. I wanted to make sure they felt comfortable talking with me, and even though I was in a bit of a rush, to take time to talk with them, and give them the respect they deserve as well. I was not treated so well when I started and I will never be one of those people. So when the time comes when someone does not treat them so well, and they are brushed aside they may just remember that not everyone is that way, and move forward. I just had the best time. The boys showed better this weekend, and in the sun... so I couldn't ask for anything more.
We headed down to the beach ... we could not help ourselves,it was so pretty. As we walked down the path to the beach with Kiddo and Rider we realized the path did not break through the rocks. The dogs took it upon themselves to jump on top of them and work their way down to the beach, we simply just tried to keep up :) I think they were as anxious to get there as much as we were.
The pictures are above. One is of Rider and One of Kiddo :)
Lhasa Regards,

Goldy Marie

Praying for time

I heard a song from the past today and it struck a cord with me. The thicker consistency of food helps her keep it down. This is helping her nurse better as well.
Dea left me to take care of her... lol Well she went to a dog show. So I am home taking care of the brood and Oreo and Classy's litter. I know I can take care of this little gal, but it is always nice to know that Dea is here if I need her. She will be back on Sunday so I am sure I can manage, lets hope !
I will be moving the puppies to 2 3x3 puppy pens so they will have more room to grow and will be able to start working on separating there potty area from there sleeping and eating area. Which starts about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Lhasa Regards,
Goldy Marie

Tierd and Hopeful

One of our babies is not doing so well. This is a puppy out of Classy's litter. She is aspirating milk through her nose which has given her a bit of a cold. She stopped nursing last night and was very lethargic and loosing weight. So Dea and I starting supplementing her every three hours and holding her upright so she can sleep and get the rest she needs to improve, sleeping is so important.... as important as her feedings. Today she turned around about 5:30 p.m after we supplemented her, she seemed willing to play a little as puppies start doing at 3 weeks with there kissy kissy, and soft play biting so we laid mom out and helped her take hold and sure enough she suckled for a bit.
As we just got done feeding her at 9 tonight she did even better, a little more of a consistent sucking and we even got a wag of her little tail. :) I am so happy!
Both mamma's watch us feed the little one just looking up.... all concerned we may be doing her harm. I wish I could let them both know we are just just trying to help her along. I think hopefully, god willing she will be just fine.
Lhasa Regards,
Goldy Marie

Our English Clown :) Kiddo

Well my blog had problems so I am glad that we now have this one to share on. I have not shared my recent trip to England to bring over Kiddo to the States. I was there for only a short time, and hope to spend at least 2 weeks next time I go. So much history there and I love that. I think it would take years to see everything in London alone, as the guide informed us... he was a history major at the University, and was pointing out what buildings he has not yet seen. So hopefuly sooner then later we can both go Dea and I , because I do feel I missed out on a lot.

Going back... the reason I made the trip was to go get a new addition to our breeding program here at Carrington. His name is Kiddo and we are so pleased with this boy. He is definalty what I would call a clown! Kiddo has a fun sense of humor and makes me laugh everyday with something he does. His full name is Wyndcatch New Kid In Town his breeders name is June Smith. June bred her bitch Antonia to Victoria Watterson's Dog Rictovia's Somebody To Love "Jason" who I also admire in Type. We asked Victoria to help us expot a SaxonSprings lined dog almost 5 years ago. We had been waiting patienly for something she thought was special, and she was right :) Kiddo is one in a Million. I thought I would share some photos of the Kiddo :o) ... I also have his pup photo that was sent to us when he was 12 weeks of age. Thank you Victoria you have been a true mentor on our journey. Of course June .... I can't even emagine how difficult it must have been for you to let us have this boy, I am truley greatful and look forward to a lasting friendship in the years to come.

Lhasa Reagards,
Goldy Marie

October ALAC National Specialty week is getting closer!

I called the hotel today, and double checked our reservation that Dea and I had reserved for the ALAC National Specialty, which is held every year in October. This will be our first National so needless to say we are very excited to attend. We will be arriving the night of the 19th and be leaving good ol' Boston Mass. on the 26th . It will be interesting trip because we will not be flying strait into Boston we will be flying to Newark N.J to introduce the Gallo's to there new baby. There new family addition will be old enough to go to his new home by this time :) Dea and I then will be driving to Boston with one or 2 of our dogs. We are not sure yet who we will be bringing along. Any thoughts as to who we should bring? I do wish I could bring all 4 of our kids we are currently showing, but feel it would be to stressful for them being it is such a long way to travel from Utah, and not to mention the airlines are now charging more money for dogs who ride in cabin. Delta has raised it to $150.00 one way ... so $300.00 round trip. *Yikes* I won't even mention what they have raised Cargo Delta Dash for pets to. I still think it is extremely laughable that the public is under some kind of misconception that we make money hand over fist breeding dogs. They are shocked that a weekend of showing can quickly add up to $700 or at times $1000. For us in Utah that is the reality of it! This my friends is just the cost of the show entries, travel expenses 7 hrs or more, and then Hotel! I know back East it is much more affordable because the long travel is not needed, because there is a lot more AKC shows, and they are closer to your home turf. I am just thankful for the moment that the gas prices haven't continued to rise. I can't help but think how this will affect the dog show world.... I have noticed that entries for all Breed Shows is down.

If anyone is interested in the National Specialty, and would like to know more about it... you can click the link which will take you to the American Lhasa Apso Club's website http://www.lhasaapso.com/ We have been collecting items for the clubs annual Raffle which is a fun raiser to help ALAC in many capacities. They range from the misinformed to the extremely educated type. The misinformed individuals seem to have more care for color then quality, and have no idea why they should care about shows or Champions. They seem to think that show dogs are ones who are carried around on pillows and fed filet steak every day! :)
I had a call from a woman with a Lhasa whom said he dog was biting her, and was kicking her husband out of bed. She had worked with trainers, but had little or no result. She was at her wits end as to what to do, and felt there was no alternative but to put her dog down.
Turns out that she got the dog from a puppy mill in Missouri who "went out of business" last year and sold all the dogs at a Dog Auction held by http://www.swkennelauction.com/
I couldn't help but think if she had only spent a little more time looking for an ethical breeder with a sold line of well respected dogs she wouldn't be having this problem. If the public would stop buying these puppies from these commercial breeders, and start getting puppies from breeders who are dedicated to preserving their breeds standard, and continuing a sold line of proven quality dogs, then just maybe the puppy mills would have no choice but to find a different cash crop to sell.
I did offer some methods to try and shared her dogs history with her. She has decided to give her boy another chance and has a little more knowledge and understanding of his behavior problems. I can only hope that this Lhasa Apso does not become another said statistic of the effect of commerical breeding.
Dea Andrews
